Your unique Close-up Portrait with the Klimsch Reproduction Camera

Josef Dreisörner’s analogue black and white photographs allow him to capture far more than any color photograph – above all the human face – with strong authenticity. His Klimsch Unikat Close-up Portraits create unique, visually and psychologically precise insights into the human face – an aesthetic that initially alienates the viewer, but is precisely intended in the consistency of its depiction. These human faces are unadorned, direct and truthful. Josef Dreisörner’s portraits are a consistent alternative to the arbitrary images of people that have been passed through countless filters and presets, produced and shared millions of times a day, in which every mistake has been corrected and every desired aesthetic result has been produced retrospectively.

This is an absolutely honest type of photography, in which nothing is embellished or retouched. Every wrinkle, every age spot remains visible. This type of analog one-to-one photography on a special black-and-white positive photo paper is only for people who can see and bear themselves as they are. The process has the property of making a person more visible as a personality. This direct, genuine and authentic photography is not suitable for people who can only tolerate a beautiful appearance of themselves.

The portrait has a very shallow depth of field. This means that areas of the face that are only slightly in front of or behind the horizontally focused focal plane begin to appear blurred. This interplay of sharpness and blurring gives the photo a special magic and directs the viewer’s gaze specifically to the deliberately focused areas – in a portrait, it is the eyes of the person depicted with which the viewer immediately enters into a visual dialog, so strong is the presence of the person photographed.

The Portrait

Analog portraits photographed with the Klimsch Reproduction Camera on a special 50×60 cm (20×24 inches) black and white positive photo paper – without the detour via a negative. The direct exposure on the photographic paper makes each shot unique.

Picture format / photo format: 50×60 cm (20×24 inches), framed picture format: 60×80 cm (23.6 x 31.5 inches), passe-partout (white), aluminum frame with real wood veneer in anthracite and museum glass, frame profile 5 mm (2 inches).

The portrait session lasts approximately one hour. Four photos are taken from which you can then choose the best one. After the portrait session, the picture is developed by hand in the photo lab, so you can’t take it with you straight away. However, the portrait will be ready for collection after 3 to 5 working days. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, only individual portraits are possible.
