Analog, black and white photographed art portraits in Munich

These photographs are scans of the 50 x 60 cm (20×24 Inch) large originals, photographed on black & white positive photo paper. But they do not reach the visual aesthetic preserved in the original photographs.

Klimsch Unique Close-up Portraits

Analog portraits photographed on black and white positive photo paper with the Klimsch Praktika repro camera (built 1957).

Image format / photo format: 50×60 cm, framed image format: 60×80 cm, passe-partout (white), aluminum frame with real wood veneer in anthracite and museum glass, frame profile 5 mm.

The portrait session lasts approx. one hour. Four photographs are taken from which you can choose the best one. After the portrait session, the picture is developed by hand in the photo lab, so you can’t take it with you straight away. However, the portrait will be ready for collection after 3 to 5 working days. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, only single portraits are possible.

The portrait has a very shallow depth of field. This means that areas of the subject that are only slightly in front of or behind the horizontally focused plane of sharpness begin to appear blurred. This interplay of sharpness and blurring gives the subsequent photo a special magic and directs the viewer’s gaze specifically to the deliberately focused areas – in the case of a portrait, it is the eyes of the person depicted with which the viewer immediately enters into a visual dialog, so strong is the presence of the person photographed.

This is an absolutely honest type of photography in which nothing is embellished or retouched. Every wrinkle, every age spot remains visible. This type of analog one-to-one photography on positive photographic paper is only for people who can see and bear themselves as they are. The process has the property of making a person more visible as a personality. This direct, genuine and authentic photography is not suitable for people who can only tolerate a beautiful appearance of themselves.
